Champions League - 2008/09

FC BARCELONA, WINNING IN TRAINING

Clubs having participated in the last edition of the Champions League were composed by 55.9% of expatriate players. This figure is 2.1% greater than in the previous season. The expatriate footballers have played 59.9% of the total number of minutes played by all players (+1.2%). The club which has employed the most expatriate players is Arsenal FC (82.8% in the squad and 92.7% on the pitch). Such as in the previous season, the Gunners are also the club with the youngest players (22.7 years on average).
With 90 players, Brazil is again the most represented country. However, this number has strongly decreased compared to the previous season (-17). Behind Brazilians we find French (77, +5), Spanish (54, -1), Italian (53, -2) and Argentinean (52, +19) players. Although it has qualified four teams in the competition, such as in 2007/08, England was represented by only 30 players and was positioned as the 7th in the ranking of nations with the greatest number of footballers, just ahead Germany (29, -20).
The percentage of association-trained footballers was 46.7%. This proportion decreases to 21.7% for club-trained footballers (at least 3 years between the ages of 15 and 21 in the club employing them). This figure is 0.9% greater than for the 2007/08 season. Club-trained players have played 19.6% of the total amount of minutes played by all players (+0.5%). The club having fielded the most club-trained players is the winner, FC Barcelona (46.7%).
